I would never call this a "sweet" romance. The author kills far too many people for this book to be labeled as "sweet." In fact, at one point I thought I was reading a murder mystery. It seemed like every other page had someone being murdered.

As far as the romance goes, I didn't really care for Saffron's determination to marry Silas. The man basically ignored her and when he did talk to her, he treated her like dirt. Yet no matter how badly he treated her, she continued to believe they'd be married. She seemed to have this whole imaginary romance built up in her head that had no basis in reality. I felt like she hung on to Silas far longer than she should have.

I love a strong female heroine but Saffron being the only female on a hunt for a dangerous, rabid bear was a tad hard to believe. Then the author even threw in an Indian attack. It was just a bit over the top.

Loved it.
Very exciting story from the start.
Good Micah is the opposite of Silas. Didn't like Silas at all.
Wanted to slap Saffron many times for her stubbornness regarding Silas the snob.
Couldn't put the book down.
I think by sweet it meant no sex. Because it isn't a sweet story. There are a lot of gruesome death.
But well done again Carré White
This book just kept getting better and better. I could not believe all that Saffron, and others in this book had to go through. The plot twisted and turned all over the place. Plus, the description of what was happening was terrific. There were hints in the book that made me think something was going to happen, but I never came close to figuring out several of the plot lines. I definitely recommend this book.
A good, clean, light Christian, historical, romance fiction novel. Saffron Fossett was really good with a rifle. She goes with a hunting party of men to kill a rabid bear that is attacking people in her home town in 1855.

A fast paced, intense, well written novel. Saffron is determined to kill the beast. On the trail she finds love, and an old friend that she travelled west with, who now lives with an Indian tribe. This is a good story with a strong plot, I enjoyed the book.
I don't know what to think of this book. I've read many romance books, historical and otherwise but this one was different. It originally seemed like any other prairie romance, but then the carnage started. Even the people who saw the beast thought it was different. The parts between Micah and Saffron were sweet. The parts about the beast/bear bordered on paranormal. I'm not sure that's ever been done before, but it was not very believable for a historical romance. Glad it had a happy ending.
I would have given it a higher star if the writing of the story wasn't childishly represented. I loved the characters, the theme and the era in which it was written in but the characters talked as if they were immature in nature. I think possibly this book is better ranged for the teen age reader. It was clean which I liked and Christian based which was perfect but sometimes it was hard to take it serious in spots where it should have been just because of how it was worded.
Interesting book but by no means sweet. If you can get past the first seven chapters you will probably enjoy the book. I was pleased with the ending. It is a clean book which is a plus in my search for reading material.
Well written & enjoyable. Even though these killings (by rabid bears & Indians -which is why I listed as 'some violence') all occurring in one town seems unreal - BUT considering that this town is surrounded by forest and possible Indians in the area, I can accept this as Very Possible.
There is a romance - but that one ends, thankfully, when she finds that what she thought of him was wrong.
A lot of mystery as well as hunting for the rabid bears and when the indians attack the hunting party, it was how it was then.
-- So much going on and kept me reading until the end.
