This was my third novel by author Lorraine Carey.I was expecting that same ‘Classic’ Style of adventure, but in Out of the Ashes I found Carey had exhibited her ability to add a twist on that old ‘Classic’ style using rich Native American legends with the paranormal. Dean Banks is a teen who lives out west and is not your normal teen . He inherits the ability to have superhuman powers from an ancient Apache shaman as he alone must destroy it before it destroys a centuries old gold mine. I loved how his bravery and strong sense of spirituality were brought out in this novel. There is a touch of soft romance here that will warm your heart.. I think this is bound to be the best seller for young adults.
If your child loves to read the DEAN BANKS ADVENTURES are a must read. If your kid doesn't like to read Lorraine Carey has a gift for making stories come alive. This may just be the answer to get your child to fall in love with the written word..

Even though this is written for a young adult, it held my interest with no problem.
I read two of these and liked them.
Dean Banks is back in this wonderful adventure. A well-written, fast-paced story great for young adults and the young at heart! Set against the backdrop of Arizona's gorgeous and mysterious Superstitious Mountain, the story takes off fast. Dean Banks, gifted with special powers, has a lot on his young shoulders when he's asked to protect ancient sacred places. Will he be able to face down the gathering forces of darkness? You'll have to buy this book for the young people in your life and get them to tell you! Great book to inspire the young readers in your life.
This is the second Dean Banks Adventure I’ve read and loved. Out of the Ashes (A Dean Banks Adventure) by Lorraine Carey is even more exciting than the first. Dean is a very realistic high school kid, who is thrown into a high-pressure paranormal adventure. There are also many themes and subplots that make the book even more rewarding – friendship, trust, perseverance, respect, etc.

With its southwestern setting and Native American lore the author has really crafted an authentic and colorful world. She keeps layering on the action and mystery and weaves in just the right amount of paranormal. This is just the kind of book teens will love, but as an adult in my 40s, I can say anyone who likes a well told mystery with supernatural elements will have a good time with the Dean Banks books. Highly recommended 5-stars!

My nephew is an avid reader and this is the second in the series by Lorraine Carey that we've read together. There is little more in life as comforting as reading and discussing with teens, to get their take. He absolutely loved this and actually read it a bit quicker than I did.
I had not expected such a spiritual tone in book 2 for Out of the Ashes. The story picks up where Mysteries of the Red Coyote Inn left off. This story takes the legends and lore of the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine to a whole new level. I had read about many of the odd occurrences going on in the Superstition Mountains and this story brings them to light with a young teen who is unwillingly caught up in all the mayhem and forced into a life he did not plan on.
Out of the Ashes is great for teens with all of the dirt bike action, shape-shifting and friendship troubles. I loved the characters, which helped make this sequel, deliver 100%!
Lorraine Carey writes a vast and wonderful variety of novels, and I highly recommend this one as well as all others.
