Suzanne Madron has a style all her own, being able to help the reader identify with the main character & her plight, while consistently upping the creep-out factor. I couldn't put it down...I tried! I’d have to say that Madron preyed on my personal fears. The idea that the world could suddenly change and not be what it seems is rather terrifying—especially when the people who are supposed to be closest to you turn out to be your enemy. Questioning reality and my sanity would scare me senseless. There’s not much you can do if you’re mind becomes your prison, or if the world at large wants to devour you, literally.
Some words of critique. The beginning was little bit slow, but that could have been me being anxious to get the horror party started. And, there were some unanswered questions that I felt could have been explored further. More detail and a bit more back story. However, the tale was an entertaining read and I recommend it to horror fans.
I read it right before going to bed. Not a good idea! Every time I pick up my knitting now, I have to check out my surroundings!
I liked the way she kept things clean, and focused more on the story rather than decorating it. It respects the reader as actually having an imagination. Good timing of the crescendos right to the revelation
Suzanne does a great job of painting the picture of her story in your head. I literally felt like I was watching the events unfold. It was creepy and unsettling and I’ll definitely be checking into her other work!
Will make you wonder about that house there, on the corner. The one that never seems to sell or have anyone in it. There's also a kind of dark humor to it.
Creepy good storytelling, with lots of nods toward Lovecraft. I read with an ever growing sense of dread for the wife in this story... knowing that -something- bad was going to happen to her. What DID eventually happen still makes my skin crawl. Read this with the lights on, long before bedtime D
I really enjoyed this story. The suspense kept me wanting to find what was in the house, reading till the very end. I couldn't put it down. I kept looking around .... listening closely to sounds in my home at night; well after finishing the story. Great work Suzanne )
