This book is packed with much common sense on how to treat youth and young people. The knowledge is old and tried, it works! I am amazed that we still treat children like we do in schools when all this knowlege is available and has been common knowlege since the 1970's. We were on a role for equal rights for women and equal rights for children. But something happened about the time Regan was ellected and we slid back then equal rights were no longer a top priority. Now women are more in power than even before even though they still do not have equal rights or pay because they have had to be. Hopefully the power of women will spill over to empower youth. Reclaim youth by empowering youth. Empower youth by understanding human nature and what motivates everyone!Tags : Reclaiming Youth at Risk: Our Hope for the Future [Larry K. This is the reason I taught school for years. Our young people are our future!
Excellent book for anyone who wants to work with you. In fact, I think it should be required reading for anyone who is even thinking about working with kids.
A wonderfully logical and inspirational book for a balanced life of values and priorities. Too many in our mixed cultures never get exposed to the perceptions, attitudes, and goodness conveyed in this book.
This book is a treasure for restorative justice work with teens. Great color pictures and visual aids to help educators and community volunteers develop a strengths perspective from which to work with teens.
This work offers an invaluable study of the causes of negative behaviors, issues and methods for dealing effectively with at risk youth. It presents clear, concise reasoning for some of the core behaviors likely to be exhibited that are caused by destructive relationships and environments. Dr. Bendtro offers practical, proven methodologies based on traditional child-rearing philosophies of Native American cultures. I've worked with at risk youth extensively, met Dr. Bendtro in his workshop, and have relied on some of his enlightened theories to connect with disenfranchised youth. His principles are presented in easy-to-grasp layman's terms. They offer a vivid vision of hope for today’s ever-growing negative at risk culture. I highly recommend this book.
This book is amazing in so many ways. Useful academically, professionally, and personally. If you are interested, it is worth the purchase. (Just maybe from a different seller)
So much common sense - but we know that common sense isn't so common and this book will tell you that you're not the only one who knows what makes sense!
Great for educators, parents, curriculum advisors, youth workers, therapists - anyone who comes into contact with infants, children, and teenagers would benefit from reading this book. It's an easy and light read, with lots of examples and tidbits.
